Here she is, Miss America…. Okay so awhile ago I placed an ad up for a Design Assistant and thought it would also be a good idea to switch my servers and email hosting at the same time. Soooo a few months after Jena was hired, I stumbled on a batch of emails that were lost in the switch….. Que Heather. When Jena let us know that she needed a break to have her sweet baby Caspian, I started to look for another Designer to fill the gap. I went back through my emails and there she was.
To say that Heather has been helpful wouldn’t even come close to the reality of what level of service she provides. Aside from being incredibly talented and design smart, she has an incredible ability to roll with the punches and say ‘YES’ to just about anything that comes our way.
Heather is now a Lead Designer and works directly with clients as needed to turn their vision into a reality. As we transition to new ventures and are learning to grow, she is a constant source of cool, collected feedback and perspective. Watching her thrive in our studio and always exceeding expectations is a joy to see.
And, on top of all that, I gave her the impossible task of designing my house since I could not do it for myself. I have always said I would be the WORST client to have because I love all the things and cannot decide for myself. BUT, she has tackled it effortlessly and I am confident in saying if she can do my own house, she can do any house. Okay, enough of the mush. Let’s get to know Heather a bit more.
Tell us about where you grew up and a little history of how you got into design?
I grew up in a small town on Maui. I've always been into design in some form. I thought I would go into fashion and started designing clothes when I was 8. I moved more towards interiors when I was 17 and from there have be in design at some capacity. Prior to working at StruckSured I worked for a high-end furniture store and design studio in Hawaii doing whole house design and hospitality.
What do you like best about design?
My favorite part is seeing a clients reaction when you completely redo their space and seeing how they sink into their new life/lifestyle. Your house is a really important thing and you have to love it and be comfortable there. Working with people to see their dreams and vision come to life is also one of my favorite parts of working in this industry.
What brought you to the Gorge?
My partner brought me here. We met on Maui and reconnected a few years later. I took the leap and moved here for love. <3
What do you like to do for fun?
Hang out with dog, Bowie, at the Waterfront in Hood River. I have also recently taken up fishing. I like being outside as much as possible. Doesn’t matter what it is, just like anything outside.
What’s your favorite food?
It’s a toss up between Thai and Hawaiian food. Favorite dish is either Yellow Curry or Pork Lau Lau.
Sam here again…. So there is a bit about Heather and how cool she is. I am so thankful for her and her talent and I know you all will love working with her. PS here is a sneak peak of some materials she picked for my house….. Are they not amazing?!
