One Room Challenge: Week 2

Okay okay I have been so slacking this week. I blame it on pregnancy and hormones (anyone else out there in this season?!). At any rate, I wanted to share the mood boards of Granger’s Room and give a little update. The image above was one that I found while looking into Star Wars themed rooms and loved. It shaped a lot of the decisions we made and everything centers around the accent wall paper wall behind the bed. Just to give you a sense of what we are actually doing, here is a list of items to complete:

  1. Wallpaper accent wall

  2. Wallpaper inside closet

  3. Build closet system

  4. Put together and install furniture

  5. Dress the room/move in

So we don’t a ton to demo or do until the furniture comes. The walls were all freshly painted and the floors are new. So a lot of just finishing it up and making the room in Granger’s galactic space.

Above is the mood board showing furniture grouping, below is the selections just placed on a board. I do this to show Clients the pieces from a birdseye perspective and also with a sense of how they will loo installed. One little nugget of advice for families looking to offer special themed spaces for their kiddos without having to get rid of everything once they have moved on to the next thing is:

keep all the larger items non-theme specific & neutral.

That way they mature with the kids as they grow and can evolve to meet their ever changing interests. Spend as little as possible on the themed items so that when they do grow tired of it, it won’t be so painful to swap out and move on from. Nothing in G’s room is specific aside from the peel & stick wall paper and the poster. I would be perfectly fine removing these and dressing the room differently when G is done with them.

Aside from the above, we still have yet to figure out the window treatments and a random other things that I am sure will come up as we go. Stay tuned for next week. Hopefully the wallpaper will be here and we will get rolling on that! If anything above looks like it would be a great addition to your home, click below for links!
